Schools Cycle Training

FREE Schools Cycle Training. For schools who wish to book a course, or for more information, select from one of the following Bikeability levels:

Level 1

Age Group: Years 3, 4, 5 & 6.

Duration: Two 2 hour sessions running over a two day period.

Group Size: The children are taken out in groups of up to 15 (maximum) and are accompanied by two Nationally Accredited Instructors. We can run two groups per day, therefore up to 30 children per week.

Outcomes: The children cover National Standards Level 1

Location: Level 1 training is playground based. The area is risk assessed by an instructor prior to use.

Course Structure

These courses aimed to get children enjoying cycling and giving them the basic skills to develop into future on road cyclists.

Session 1: Trainees bikes are adjusted with the children watching and learning. Helmets are fitted. Level 1 Training commences

Session 2: Level 1 Training is continued completed. The training is all based around the National Standards incorporating as many games as possible.

Post Session: Feedback and Bikeability Certificates distributed.

Level 1 & 2

Age Group: Year 5, 6 and above.

Duration: 5 sessions running over a one week period.

Group Size: The children are taken out in groups of 8 (maximum) and are accompanied by two Nationally Accredited Instructors. We can run three groups per day, therefore 24 children per week.

Outcomes: The children cover National Standards Level 1 and 2 Training.

Location: Level 1 training is playground based. Level 2 training is on quiet roads which are risk assessed by an instructor prior to use.

Course Structure

Initially Level 1 is covered. Level 2 allows the children to interact with real traffic, but sticking to quiet roads. By completing Level 2 children show they have the skills to make a trip safely on quiet roads and cycle lanes, perhaps to school.

Session 1: Trainees bikes are adjusted with the children watching and learning. Helmets are fitted. Level 1 Training commences

Session 2: Level 1 Training is completed and re affirmed. Depending on the ability of the group, Level 2, on road training, commences. However if the children require more practice with their basic skills they remain in the playground

Session 3: Level 2 on road training commences / continues. More advanced drills are covered as the trainees skills improve.

Session 4: Level 2 on road training commences / continues. More advanced drills are covered as the trainees skills improve.

Session 5: Level 2 on road training is completed. The aim of this session is for the children to put into practice what they have learnt during the week. Depending on the children progress the children will often go for a long and enjoyable ride with the instructors, leaving them with positive thoughts towards cycling.

Post Session: Feedback and Bikeability Certificates distributed.

Level 3

Age Group: Year 7 and above.

Duration: 2 sessions running over a two-day period.

Group Size: The children are taken out in groups of 2 (maximum) by one nationally accredited cycle instructor. We run two groups per day, therefore 4 children per course.

Course: Bikeability Level 3.

Course Structure

During Bikeability Level 3 trainees will learn the skills to tackle more challenging roads and traffic situations. Level 3 training is often tailored to specific trainee needs, such as a route to work or school.

Session 1: Trainees' bikes are adjusted and helmets are fitted. Level 1and 2 training outcomes are assessed. Level 3 training begins if trainees have the competence.

Session 2: Level 3 training is continued and completed.

Post session: Feedback and Bikeability certificates distributed.
