This is the southern section of the proposed route that will run along the A1010.
The A1010, running south through Ponders End and Edmonton Green, is a busy street. There are numerous small shopping parades, local amenities and schools close to the route. Car ownership is relatively low in this part of Enfield, with between 30% & 50% of households not owning a car (ONS, 2015). A safe and direct cycle route along the A1010 will enable more people to cycle their daily journeys, saving time, money and making it easier to stay healthy.
The proposed cycle route will be physically separated from traffic, so that people on bikes have their own dedicated space and do not have to mix with cars or buses. Junctions, including the Edmonton Green Roundabout, will be redesigned so that pedestrians and people cycling can pass through safely and easily. Part of the route through Ponders End High Street is being improved as part of a separate scheme in the area; pedestrian and cycle access will be enhanced and the public space will become more inviting with slower traffic speeds and more seating and lighting.
The detailed plans for this route will be drawn up during 2015. Please sign up to our mailing list on the home page, if you would like to be alerted when the detailed plans for this route are ready.
